Flower Squares

A fun little project making small 4x4 flower squares. First I coated the blocks in transparent medium, then multiple layers of white from an Enkaustico Hot Stick. The base images are printed on vellum then coated in wax to make what I call “skins”.

The colored images are slightly larger with little bit of added depth of field. I print them on a silk mesh that I discovered when I was doing a lot of testing with different papers and “transparentizing” them in the wax. It’s really flexible, so I’m able to line it up and press into the surface. I then brush on more clear medium adding that special encaustic look with a bit of depth.

On both blocks I scraped wax off, then would reheat surface to smooth it out. That way it wasn’t too rough but enough to create some subtle and interesting texture.
